Much admired, Pat enjoys as great a popularity now as ever in his career. Pat's emergence as a role model in show business has commanded considerable respect from his peers, critics and fans alike. The rich tapestry documented in this biography comes from extensive new research.
For this book, Paul Davis has spent many hours quizzing Pat, his loved ones, his friends, his associates and fans about his history, his feelings and his aspirations.
This inspiring book is essential reading for adherents of Popular Music and Gospel Music alike. It reveals a winsome personality, of skill, integrity, wisdom and wit, worthy of the role model responsibility he carries.
No other performer other than his friend, Elvis Presley has commanded such acclaim throughout the globe! Commencing his recording career in 1953, amid those young 'rock-and-rollers' and teen balladeers (Elvis, Little Richard, Sir Cliff Richard, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, the Everly Brothers, Jerry Lee Lewis, etc.), the celebrated name of the ever-youthful Pat Boone continues into the Third Millennium. Well-loved and respected, he enjoyed deserved super stardom and will always be remembered for his classic songs such as 'April Love', 'I'll Be Home', 'Love Letters In The Sand' and 'Speedy Gonzales' among others.
As well as appreciating his fine, velvet-smooth, crooning talents, the public truly warms to the wise and witty 'Christian Statesman' that he is!
Introduction by SIR CLIFF RICHARD
Pat Boone and I have been good friends for nearly half a century but that never ruled out an amicable rivalry for chart placing from time to time. In fact, for a decade or so, just as Pat and Elvis busily chased each other up and down the charts in the USA, Pat and I were similarly competing up and down the British and European charts. Sometimes, Pat gained ascendancy and sometimes it was me! Our deep respect and admiration for each other have grown through the years since that time. Thinking back over the decades, it seems that Pat and I shared much in common. In the Fifties, at the same time that Pat was enjoying massive hits with songs such as 'Love Letters in the Sand', 'Wonderful Time Up There', 'Speedy Gonzales' and, of course, 'April Love', I was simultaneously enjoying my early achievements in the European charts. Both of us have achieved success in secular movies as well as Christian movies. Pat's box office hits included the adventurous 'Journey To The Centre Of The Earth' and, of course, who can forget the passionate drama and excitement of 'The Cross And The Switch Blade'. I well remember listening in the cinema to Pat singing the title songs of movies such as 'Friendly Persuasion' and 'Anastasia' charting him on both sides of the Atlantic. His voice sounded so rich and warm as the movie credits rolled. Throughout his extensive career in show business, Pat navigated himself well through the hefty storms that sought to sink his personal integrity. To his credit, his commitment to Christ remains a lighthouse for many as Paul's book illustrates and he remains a powerful Christian communicator in concerts, movies and books. Speaking of Christian movies, another shared experience has been his involvement in travelogues in the Holy Land commenting on the important pilgrimage sites of Biblical significance with the help of appropriate songs. Like mine, Pat's Christian views are often courted on TV chat shows giving him the opportunity to bring Godly wisdom into his well-reasoned answers to questions about his faith. Pat was always 'a giver' and his unstinting commitment to charity work has been widely commended. Personally, it's a privilege for me to be counted among his friends.
